Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon - Hourly Updates, April 2019 edition

Hour 12 Finished the first part of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft.  It is really good so far!  I can't wait to share my thoughts with you all in tomorrow's check-in post.  :) Hour 5 I just woke up, got a great night's sleep and am ready for the day!  Here's my answers to the Getting to Know You Survey from Hour 1... 1)What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I'm at home in Washington state.  Today is going to be a rainy day, perfect for reading! 2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? From my stack , I'm most anticipating The Time Machine , which I haven't read in probably over 10 years. 3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? I never seem to have snacks prepared (sigh).  Maybe I'll treat myself to some hot cocoa. 4) Tell us a little something about yourself! This is my first readathon as a (rookie) manager, which is why I'll be reading The Making of a Man...

My weekend is completely booked...uh, no pun intended.  This is all happening tomorrow: Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon - one of my favorite events of the year Ruth's Rights of Woman Readathon - reading/writing thoughts Working on the ending of my book (it's coming along) Sending part I of my book to readers (thank you again!!) Here's the lineup for the readathon (books I'll be making progress on, not necessarily finishing).  As always, I'll be posting updates to Instagram and Goodreads. A Vindication of the Rights of Woman / Mary Wollstonecraft The Making of a Manager / Julie Zhuo The Lost City of Z / David Grann The Time Machine (reread) / H. G. Wells Ben-Hur / Lew Wallace And anything else I can muster.  But that's probably stretching it as it is.

Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon - Hourly Updates, October 2018 edition

Hour 15 Between doing weekend things (laundry, cleaning, yay) and thinking about work stuff - plus a heavy dose of LOTF - I got majorly derailed this afternoon.  My goal for the evening is to finish chapter 6 and then probably switch gears to something lighter. Hour 11 Progress: Read first couple of chapters of Pe Ell's Polish Pioneers by Leo Kowalski.  I don't think I've ever visited Pe Ell, WA, but pioneer stories are always intriguing. Read "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" by Flannery O'Connor.  This one made me feel squicky.   Continuing to read Lord of the Flies ...very, very slowly.  I am picking up on a lot of things that went over my head before.  The most interesting thing is that each chapter contains some kind of horror or atrocity, just very subtly.  When you catch those references, you can fully understand the build-up to the ultimate evil in the book (which is what I remember most). Hour 7 Joining late,...

It's that time of year ... Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon ! This bi-yearly event is one I look forward to with zest.  It's an excuse to take all Saturday to do my favorite thing. I'm starting late - 6 hours late - but that's ok, because this is just a fun marathon (and I like to get my sleep). Without further ado, the lineup: The Code of the Woosters / Wodehouse Tales & Sketches / Hawthorne Lord of the Flies / Golding Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea / Verne Three Men in a Boat / Jerome The Boy in the Mask / Gyles This time, my goal is to not get bored or fatigued.  So I might just ditch the list and do a Sherlock Holmes marathon.  Or, pick random books I own that I haven't read.

Hour 19 The good news - I finished The Castle ! The bad news...I wasn't expecting it to be such a struggle.  Can you believe, I was ready to give up on it, with just 10% or less left?  It was pretty terrible. However, The Castle was on my to-finish backlog since freshman or sophomore year in college, so I am very excited to have read it all the way through, even if it was painful. Anyways, after that, I found myself looking around for something "lighter" to read.  Only I could choose Eugene Onegin as "lighter" fare.  But I love this story - you might remember my Eugene Onegin Read-Along from a few years back.  Roger Clarke's translation is new to me, and it's already proving to be interesting. This might be my last blog check-in for the night... I may post some more on Instagram later, though, depending how long I can keep my eyes open.  Thanks to all who've stopped by and offered encouragement - it's been fun! Hour 13 ...

It's that happy time of year again, the biannual Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon !  I am somewhat of a casual participant, in that I don't get up at 5am and I do let myself take long breaks.  Even so, it's still great fun! As ever, I'll be posting updates to Instagram and Goodreads . The lineup: Finish The Kill / Emile Zola Finish The Castle / Franz Kafka - library ebook & can't renew! CEO, China / Kerry Brown Ben-Hur / Lew Wallace The Undead / Dick Teresi Stretch goals: Something off my "short books" list Little Women / Louisa May Alcott - reread The Sickness Unto Death / Soren Kierkegaard Philosophy 101 / Paul Kleinman Various books for work In other news, I am gearing up for Season 2 of Classics Considered .  April has been far, far too busy and short... I'd meant to release at least one episode this month but could not make it happen.  Anyways, from this list you can see a sneak peek of things to come.  I ...

Starting a little late here - but hey, with four hours of extra sleep, I have that much more energy for the rest of the readathon!  ;) Going to follow Cirtnecce 's example and update this post as often as possible.  Stay tuned and check back! Hour 12 . . . Mid-Event Survey : 1. What are you reading right now? Well, I just finished Hero: The Life and Legend of Lawrence of Arabia , which I've been reading since June.  His story always gets me...  I got teary near the end. 2. Once again, I'm gearing up for Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon , starting in five hours!  I enjoyed this event so much last time that, as soon as I heard there was a fall edition, I put it on my calendar.  It's not so much that I stay up the full 24 hours - no, indeed - but it's such a great, fun time to read a lot of different books and eat candy (oops). As before, I'll be posting updates to Instagram and Goodreads , as well as maybe some reviews here.  Let me know if you're also participating! The lineup:  Finish Hero: The Life and Legend of Lawrence of Arabia / Michael Korda Journey Through the Impossible / Jules Verne Peter Pan / J. M. Barrie Rhett & Link's Book of Mythicality / Rhett and Link Bambi (ebook) / Felix Salten Stretch goals: The Lord of the World (ebook) / Robert Hugh Benson Kidnapped (re-read) / Robert Louis Stevenson

This will be my first year participating in Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon !  It's been on my radar for a while, but I'm usually too busy (or think I'm too busy).  This year, the timing is right, as I've already got a ton of "currently reading" books on the shelf.  I'll be posting updates on my Instagram and perhaps some reviews to follow afterwards.  Let me know if you're also participating! And now, the lineup: We (e-book) / Yevgeny Zamyatin Right Ho, Jeeves (e-book) / P. G. Wodehouse Sherlock Holmes Challenge catch-up / A. C. Doyle Out of the Silent Planet / C. S. Lewis  Spiritual Writings / Soren Kierkegaard The Paper Door and Other Stories / Naoya Shiga Stretch goals: Journey Through the Impossible / Jules Verne The Screwtape Letters / C. S.
